Tory Lanez is expanding his portfolio to the food industry. The rapper-singer is opening up an ice cream shop in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
According to South Florida Sun-Sentinel’s report on Tuesday (June 11), the Grammy-nominated artist will debut his frozen-treat parlor Notorious Creamery on June 15 at noon.
The 700-square-foot eatery will feature a menu of 12 different vegan and non-vegan ice cream delights, as well as milkshakes and fruit sorbets. The shop will be run by Lanez and general manager/restauranter Bobby Velez who describes his parlor as “an authentic, old-school shop, but with a modern, boutique twist.”
According to Velez, Lanez became interested in co-owning an ice cream parlor after an arranged meeting with him through the rapper’s former personal bodyguard. When he pitched him the ice cream shop, he was excited about the business opportunity. “He’s always wanted to get involved in hospitality, and I just loved what he’s working on behind the scenes, creating new trends,” Velez told the newspaper.
In an April interview with XXL,/i>, Lanez expressed his interest in being an entrepreneur and owning several businesses. He cites billionaire Jay-Z, 50 Cent and Diddy as his inspirations.
“I’m 26 and I’ve already accomplished half of the things they accomplished before they was this age,” he says. “Not to say that we’re not all in fair runnings, but the fact that I’m able to be this blessed at this age and know the things I know this early, I think I have what it takes to go beyond that.”
